Why is the path to success counter intuitive?
Have you ever noticed that many paths to success are counter intuitive? What you think should be the way to get what you want in fact isn’t.
Why is it to be healthy you should eat less? Or to think better sleep more. Want to convince someone? Listen more and talk less.
I was thinking about this yesterday as I enjoyed a very productive Friday that actually included very few activities. A chance meeting on the way to work with a client will turn into more work. A short call back East resolved an outstanding issue. A meeting later in the morning could turn into great future collaboration opportunity. My debrief with a colleague after his morning seminar gave me some valuable insights for our product marketing. And I finished the day with a call to new connection that could have future benefits.
On the surface I had maybe one third the normal number of activities. But the results were more valuable than most days that are packed with miscellaneous tasks.
We need to know what we are aiming for at work but sometimes the road to get there isn’t what you think!
