Welcome to my new book!
The new book if coming along and I can actually start to see the end results getting closer. Here’s a quick update on what you can expect.
As I worked through the creation process I realized that my ambitions for the project had changed from a ‘how-to’ book to more of a challenge to the reader. I want people to get more than a few tricks for their email and how to clean their desk off or save time in a meeting. Confession time: actually all of that is in the book, as well as my thinking about the downside of “busy-ness”. In fact, all I had to do was look at my own work patterns to recognize what I needed to write about.
So the new title is “Give me a Break: the art of making time work for you”
Some of the topics I included are:
A look in the mirror - discover the patterns that are stealing your life away and making you unhappy.
Exorcise your email - get real about what your time is for and put email back where it belongs, as a simple communication tool, not what we do all day.
Honor the mundane – reframe all those regular must-get-done tasks into something more rewarding and fulfilling.
Jump start your day – fun habits to bring your energy up and add spark to your attitude.

Fed up with long hours and an unrelenting Inbox? Read Hugh Culver’s “Give me a Break” and reconnect with what matters at work and in life.
Elevator pitch
We are in the Age of Distraction where multi-tasking, always ON, synapse-overdrive living is the norm. Our high-tech, modern lifestyle values fast turnaround, being connected 24/7 and instant access to whatever we need. And yet as we get better at going faster we don’t seem to be getting better at being happy. So what’s up? Give me a Break presents new exciting strategies to stop being busy and get more of what you want at work and in life.
Hugh Culver has combined two decades of leadership experience with another ten years as a consultant and speaker to offer a new approach for how we use our time. This book is perfect for the successfully overwhelmed who feel like there is no time in the day left for them. If you struggle with interruptions, endless meetings and non-stop email you will discover new strategies to help you immediately. “I think ‘busy’ is a four-letter word that describes the wrong goal post. What we really want to be is engaged, satisfied and fulfilled.” says Culver
