Are you on track?
I was presenting to a group of managers that are responsible for the tourism information centres in Alberta yesterday. We were at the magnificent Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel surrounded by some of earth’s top postcard material. It was a magic combination of wonderful, dedicated leaders gathered at an inspiration setting preparing to serve others through their vocation.
And it struck me that even though I was there to talk about tourism and that tomorrow I will be with investment advisors we are all the same and looking for the same things. We all want to feel good about contribution and feel like we are making a difference.
Sometimes our work means we have to apply ourselves in areas that are not always fulfilling and that are part of the journey. The trick is to keep coming back to our path; returning to what we do best and what makes the most difference.
When I am creating solutions for my clients and helping them to move forward I know I am doing what I should be doing. And as long as I can be spending the majority of my time do that kind of work I’m satisfied. It’s like the airplane pilot getting blown off course, as long as he or she corrects they will get to their destination. The danger is when you stray off to chase those “bright shiny objects”.
Are you on track and making a contribution?
